Job Description

Senior Specialist – Quantitative Sciences Consultant (Data Science / Statistics)

This position is ideally located at our manufacturing sites in Oss (The Netherlands) or Heist- op-den-Berg (Belgium).

The position

By joining the Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) as a Senior Specialist – Quantitative Sciences Consultant (Data Science / Statistics), you will be part of the Organon Manufacturing and Supply (OMS) organization and have the opportunity to make a real difference in ensuring a compliant, predictable and robust supply of medicines to patients. Besides, you take part in our team’s mission to transform the manufacturing division’s way of performing data driven decision making.

In this role, you will drive quantitative analyses for the most important and complex non-clinical projects in OMS across the globe (e.g. root-cause analyses, improving product and process robustness, shelf-life evaluations, tech transfers, regulatory filings or commercialization related projects) and function as a partner in decision making. You will work on key projects within OMS and will effectively translate business questions and collaborate with the CMS team.

The Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) team

Our team is strongly positioned within Science & Technology – a subdivision of the OMS organization with representation of various Technical Operations groups and other support areas providing integrated end-to-end support. Being part of the CMS team, you will be exposed to the non-clinical side of the product lifecycle and will support the organization from late-stage development to commercial supply on both projects with a compliance focus or with an improvement emphasis. These projects can be related to drug substance, drug product, packaging or equipment related challenges. In this way you get exposure to diverse quantitative challenges and simultaneously build a strong internal and external network.

The believe is that our team should be more than a sole provider of quantitative analysis (mostly statistical) and is both effective in structuring problems and able to translate pharmaceutical challenges, that concern data in quantitative solutions. You will join as the fifth member of an energetic team of statistical / data science consultants who are based at our manufacturing locations in Oss (NL) and partially in Heist-op-den-Berg (Belgium). The team works on site for roughly 60% of the time and the rest from home. In case you live closer to the Heist-op-den-Berg site (Belgium), it is expected that you will visit the Oss site once every other week.

  • Independently uses appropriate statistical or data science techniques (basic or advanced) to make data-driven decisions and recognizes limitation of methods used.
  • Effectively translates pharmaceutical questions – related to critical quality attributes of manufactured products or related processes – into quantitative analyses evaluates the impact of new regulatory proposals on manufacturing operations.
  • Supports with the generation of objectives and hypotheses to be evaluated in a data-driven way and provide decision support by means of risk assessments, root-cause analyses etc.
  • Develops and applies new statistical/ mathematical ways of working to meet specific projects’ needs.
  • Contributes to the development of data analytics solutions (e.g. interactive dashboards / multivariate analyses) to transform fact-based decision making in the division.
  • Conducts second-person reviews of the formal reports of other Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) members and ensures accuracy of data used.
  • Builds a strong internal and external network to assure continued statistical and mathematical support.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • MSc, or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. statistics, mathematics, data science, chemometrics, or any related field).
  • At least 3 – 5 years of relevant industry experience in a quantitative consulting role and working with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • A proven track-record with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze issues, identify causes and recommend solutions quickly.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both CMS colleagues and internal customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Strong background in the pharmaceutical industry or a heavily regulated food domain.
  • Extensive statistical experience (e.g. DoE, generalized linear mixed models, statistical process control, multivariate analysis, simulation).
  • Excellent programming skills in R or experience with software like SAS or Minitab.
  • Willingness to further develop in the field of statistics and strong quantitative modelling as well as data analytics.
  • Experience with working with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Creative mindset with a desire to implement data analytics solutions.
  • Flexibility in working hours is needed occasionally, since global support is provided.
